Defect Injury

How this works

What we are, what we aren't, and how we get paid

Defect Injury is a free service that connects people to independent attorneys. We are not a law firm, we do not give legal advice, and no one here is your lawyer.

That distinction matters enough that we put it on its own page instead of burying it in the footer.

What we are

Defect Injury is an advertising and referral service. We publish information about product liability claims and connect people who were hurt by a product with independent attorneys who handle these cases.

We are not a law firm. We do not practice law, we cannot give legal advice, and submitting the form does not create an attorney–client relationship. Any attorney you're matched with is independent of this site.

How we get paid

Law firms pay us a flat fee for advertising and qualified referrals. It's fixed — it doesn't change with your case value, whether you win, or how much you recover, and it's never deducted from a settlement.

Fee arrangements that scale with case value are prohibited between lawyers and non-lawyers under professional conduct rules in every state. Ours doesn't.

What happens to your submission

A person reads it. The first thing we look for is whether you still have the product, because that more than anything determines whether a claim is workable.

If it fits, we route it to a firm licensed in your state that handles product liability work, usually within a couple of hours. They contact you directly.

If it doesn't fit, we email you and say so, with the reason.

What we won't do

We won't quote settlement figures from a form. We won't promise an outcome. We won't imply we're a law firm. And we won't keep contacting you after you've asked us to stop.

Ready when you are

Two minutes, no cost, and you're free to walk away at any point — including after you've spoken to the attorney.
